Pang Ron-Su Yin pull off upset in China Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin upstaged Taiwan's world No. 13 Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang in the China Open first round today.

The world No. 32 defeated the higher-ranked Taiwanese 21-17, 21-16 in 28 minutes.

Pang Ron-Su Yin will face compatriots Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow in the second round. Though it will be a first encounter between both pairs, world No. 54 Roy King-Valeree are seen as the underdogs.

Independent pair Tan Kiang Meng-Lai Pei Jing also reached the second round after defeating B. Sumeeth Reddy-N. Sikki Reddy of India 21-10, 21-16.

World No. 17 Kian Meng-Pei Jing will face Denmark's Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund next.

In men's doubles, Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri fell to South Korea's world No. 3 Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae 21-10, 21-18. World champions Min Hyuk-Seung Jae will meet Malaysia's Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the second round.
