KUALA LUMPUR: Women's pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah got off to a winning start at the Denmark Open, but it was an early exit for Leong Jun Hao in the men's singles today.
World No. 7 Pearly-Thinaah overcame India's Treesa Jolly-P. Gayathri 19-21, 21-17, 21-15 in the opening hurdle at Jyske Bank Arena in Odense.
It marked Pearly-Thinaah's sixth win against the world No. 21 in seven outings.
Pearly-Thinaah will most likely face Lee Yu Lim-Shin Sheung Chan of South Korea in the last 16.
The Malaysians will be eager to build on their runners-up outing at the Arctic Open in Finland last week.
Jun Hao was no match for Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in the first round. He lost 21-16, 21-14 to Jonatan, who's the Arctic Open runner-up.
Jun Hao failed to replicate the stunning win he secured against Jonatan in the first round of the Indonesia Open.
"Jonatan was more consistent and steady, it wasn't easy to kill the rallies," said Jun Hao.
