KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were left ruing their semi-final defeat in the Malaysia Super 100 tournament at Stadium Juara today.
The world No. 57 lost 21-19, 21-14 in 45 minutes to Japan's 64th-ranked Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara.
Though Tien Ci-Chiew Sien were on the back foot from the beginning of the first game, they managed to overtake the Japanese 18-17.
However, Yuichi-Sayaka stayed calm to take the first game and ride that momentum to victory in the second.
Chiew Sien said the defeat served as a lesson for them.
"We managed to overtake them late in the first game but could not seal it. That was a wasted opportunity.
"In the second game they had more confidence after winning the first. We tried to fight back but could not get the result," she said.
Tien Chi said losing the first game after coming so close, affected their confidence and that led to many mistakes.
"Our problem is consistency, we need to work on it. I think this is more of a mental issue," he added.
Their next tournament is the Indonesia Masters II Super 100 which will begin on Oct 29.
