Mei Xing-Pei Kee hope to recover from traumatic semi-final

KUALA LUMPUR: National women's pair Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee are trying to recover mentally for tomorrow's Malaysia Super 100 final after a traumatic incident today.

The world No. 112 advanced after a misfortune to their semi-final rivals, world No. 345 Ng Qi Xuan-Yap Rui Chen.

Mei Xing-Pei Kee had lost the first game 22-20 and were on the verge of defeat, trailing 20-18 in the second when former national shuttler Qi Xuan went up for a smash and landed awkwardly, screaming in agony.

Despite receiving medical treatment, she could not continue, and conceded the match to Mei Xing-Pei Kee.

Pei Kee, who was shaken by the incident, said she felt sorry for the 24-year-old Qi Xuan.

"I'm sad for her. This is the first time I've seen something like this happen to my opponent. It's very upsetting," said the 22-year-old Pei Kee.

Mei Xing, 27, said she and Pei Kee need to recover quickly from the distressing incident to be mentally ready for the final tomorrow against Taiwan's Nicole Gonzales Chan-Yang Chu Yun who defeated Hong Kong's Lui Lok Lok-Tsang Hiu Yan 23-21, 21-18.

Meanwhile, professional men's pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong defeated Taiwan's Wu Hsuan Yi-Ye Hong Wei in the semi-finals, and will play Americans Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith in the final.
