KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai breezed into the quarter-finals of the Kumamoto Masters in Japan today.
The Malaysian duo needed just 35 minutes to subdue China's Zhou Zhi Hong-Yang Jia Yi 21-19, 21-11 in the second round.
In the first round yesterday, Soon Huat-Shevon had a harder time against Japan's new partnership, Yuta Watanabe-Maya Taguchi, edging through 18-21, 21-12, 21-14.
They will meet Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito or Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Lisa Ayu Kusumawati in the quarter-finals.
However, Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were shown the exit by the United States' Presley Smith-Jennie Gai who won 21-13, 14-21, 16-21.
Though Tien Ci-Chiew Sien had beaten the American duo in the Malaysia Super 100 quarter-finals last month, they could not repeat that performance.
