Shuttler Zi Yu stamps her class in AJBC Grand Finals

KUALA LUMPUR: World Junior Championships finalist Low Zi Yu easily won the Allianz Junior Badminton Championships (AJBC) Grand Finals at the Juara Stadium on Sunday

The Johor shuttler defeated Teoh Su Mei of Kuala Lumpur 21-10, 21-17 in the girls' singles under-15 final.

Zi Yu had made history at the recent World Juniors in Nanchang, China, by becoming the youngest ever finalist in the girls' doubles at 14. Zi Yu-Dania Sofea Zaidi finished second to Japan's Ririna Hiramoto-Aya Tamaki.

Perak's A. Baavanya-Nur Aina Maisarah clinched the AJBC girls' under-15

title after beating Johor's S. Hasyni Devi-N. Navina 21-14, 21-14.

Kuala Lumpur's Cheong Kai Sheng defeated Albee Loh of Johor 21-8, 8-21, 21-8 to clinch the boys' under-15 singles title.

The winners received RM1,000 in the singles, and the doubles champions received RM1,200.

All winners also received a RM2,000 special grant for their future competition expenses, including entry fees, purchase of equipment, training and others.

A total of 195 players made the cut for AJBC Grand Finals out of 3,113 players who competed in the 10 qualifying rounds held across the country.
