KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 6 Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have drawn inspiration from the off-court discipline of retired Chinese badminton legend Zheng Si Wei.
Ee Wei revealed that Si Wei's disciplined lifestyle was pivotal to his success alongside partner Huang Ya Qiong.
"They are a world-class pair, and we've learned a great deal from them," she said at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara today.
"However, there's still so much we need to improve on. The most important thing is to stay humble as we strive to reach the highest level."
Si Wei, who retired after the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, had a glittering career, clinching numerous major titles with Ya Qiong.
Their achievements include a gold medal at this year's Paris Olympics and three world titles.
The 27-year-old called time on his career to focus on family life after securing the mixed doubles title with Ya Qiong by edging Tang Jie-Ee Wei 21-18, 14-21, 21-17 in the WTF mixed doubles final.
Looking ahead to 2025, Tang Jie-Ee Wei hope to deliver their best at the Malaysia Open at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, on Jan 7-12.
Ee Wei, 24, is determined not to miss the opportunity of playing on home soil and has her sights set on becoming champions in the season opener with Tang Jie.
Tang Jie, meanwhile, hopes that when their time comes to retire, they will receive the same heartfelt send-off from fans that Si Wei enjoyed.
"I hope we can learn not only from Si Wei's professionalism on the court but also his discipline off the court," Tang Jie said.
"Not every player gets to face a legend in their final match. I hope that when we retire, we can experience an environment like that."
