Azizulhasni says 'sorry' for poor show

KUALA LUMPUR: Cyclist Azizulhasni Awang apologised to his Malaysian fans for failing to meet targets in the men’s keirin and sprint events at the ongoing World Track Championships in the Netherlands.

The 30-year-old said he is upset that he could not finish on the podium in both events.

However, the Dungun-born has pledged to comeback stronger in next month’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the Indonesia Asian Games in August.

“I would like to extend my sincere apology to all Malaysians for failing to win a medal here,” said Azizulhasni on his Facebook account.

“In the sprint today, I managed only 10:024 seconds in the qualifying round. It was slower than my personal best of 9.774s set last month at the Asian Track Championships.

“I was down with a viral infection and it affected my performance.”

Azizulhasni added: “I hope to bounce back in upcoming competitions.”
