The National Sports Council (NSC) definitely want to retain John Beasley as the national track cycling coach.
However, it will all depend on negotiations between both parties. Beasley's contract expires in December.
NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said they are prepared to discuss Beasley's requirements for his new contract.
The Australian is willing to relocate to Malaysia, if he is offered a long-term contract covering an Olympic cycle.
The national cyclists have been training in Melbourne under Beasley for over a decade. However, Beasley feels Malaysia now has solid cycling infrastructure to develop world-class riders.
He also hopes to retain his support team, especially high-performance manager Izham Mohamad.
"We will definitely discuss his requirements when we meet him face-to-face. We will then present our findings to the higher authorities," said Shapawi.
"We have actually done our best to accommodate his requirements (prior to this) though not through official contracts, which covered an Olympic cycle.
"This is because it requires a long-term financial commitment.
"As with any other work contracts, both parties have a responsibility to work out a win-win situation."
Beasley, who guided Azizulhasni Awang to two Olympic medals and a world championship title over the past decade, is a well-respected figure at the international level.
