KUALA LUMPUR: Fadhil Zonis did not disappoint as he defended his silver medal in the men's 1km time trial at the Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi today.
The 24-year-old from Selangor clocked one minute and 1.639 seconds to finish second behind Japan's Yuta Obara (1:01.118s) at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex Velodrome.
India's Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam rounded out the podium on 1:01.798s.
The women's individual sprint event saw both Anis Amira Rosidi and Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, who claimed the women's 500m time trial gold on Sunday, bowing out in the quarter-final stage.
Anis and Izzah pushed their opponents to a deciding race but were edged by South Korean duo Cho Sunyoung and Park Ji Hae in their respective quarterfinals.
Anis and Izzah had defeated Sampati Biswas Aurthi and Tithi Biswas, who are both from Bangladesh, in their respective opening-round races earlier in the day.
In the men's junior category, Zulfahmi Aiman Zulkarnain did well to clinch silver in the scratch race behind South Korea's Kim Hwarang. India's Birjit Yumnam completed the podium.
The early rounds of the men's individual sprint will be held tomorrow.
