KUALA LUMPUR: Local cycling enthusiasts who fancy a scenic ride can look forward to the first ever century ride on a closed-system highway.
On Tuesday, the RHB Banking Group, in partnership with the West Coast Expressway Sdn. Bhd. announced the inaugural ride, which will take place on the brand-new highway in Perak on May 19.
The race will cater to a diverse range of participants with varying fitness levels on the routes of 160km, 90km and 28km along the West Coast Expressway, which will begin and end at the Lekir toll plaza.
Rashid Mohamad, Group Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of RHB Banking Group, said he is expecting about 3,000 riders, both local and international to grace the event.
"The RHB WCE Century Ride is our continued commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle, fostering community connection and supporting our local businesses.
"We believe that the sport of cycling brings people of all ages together. The Century Ride caters for everyone – from professional cyclists to families and friends looking for fun rides.
"There will also be a host of on-ground, family-friendly activities and entertainment lined up," said Rashid.
"The RHB WCE Century Ride is an extension of the RHB LEKAS Highway Ride and is part of our RHB Ride ecosystem that carries the theme 'Ride for Good'.
"To inspire and motivate our participants in a lead-up to the RHB WCE Century Ride event, we have partnered with various merchants to offer our customers more options and attractive deals, including discounts of up to 30 per cent and complimentary gifts with purchase when they buy cycling and sports equipment," he added.
Registration for the race opens Wednesday.
