Sabah Day celebration, traditional market draws 3,000

KOTA KINABALU: The largest Sabah Day luncheon and market has brought together more than 3,000 guests at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.

Since early morning, SICC was alive with activity, as attendees arrived dressed in traditional attire representing the diverse ethnic groups of Sabah.

Its Kinabatangan Hall was transformed into a bustling marketplace, reminiscent of a traditional "tamu" or weekly market that offered an array of locally crafted products, including fresh tropical fruits, such as rambutan and durian, traditional snacks and handmade craft.

In the luncheon, each dish was meticulously prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, highlighting the diverse flavours of Sabah cuisine.

A special August birthday celebration added an extra layer of festivities, with SICC chief executive officer Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki leading a cake-cutting ceremony.

There was double joy for guests celebrating their birthdays today, which is also National Day. They were gifted with a special RM100 voucher each to dine at the Meranti Café, ensuring a day filled with appreciation and indulgence.

Rosmawati said today's celebration was a powerful reflection of our collective pride in Sabah's traditions, values and sense of togetherness.

"The Sabah Day Luncheon and Sabah Day Tamu@SICC are not merely events; they are milestones in our ongoing mission to preserve and promote the unique and vibrant traditions that make Sabah exceptional.

"I am deeply honoured to witness so many come together to celebrate the beauty and diversity of our state," she said.
