KUALA LUMPUR: National track cycling programme technical director John Beasley has confirmed that Azizulhasni Awang will not be competing at the Ballerup World Championships on Oct 16-20.
Beasley said Azizulhasni's main priority at the moment is on completing his studies at Victoria University in Melbourne where he is reading exercise science.
"Datuk Azizul will not be going to the world championships," said Beasley when contacted today.
"The focus for him is to complete his university degree and then we will look at what the next chapter of his life will look like.
"It will be about managing him through the process of (determining) what is next for him after completing university."
Azizulhasni's status has been a question mark. He has long said that he would retire from the national team after the Paris Olympics, which ended last month.
The 36-year-old's Paris campaign, however, ended on a sour note after being disqualified from the keirin, his pet event. A number of parties subsequently urged him to reconsider his plans to retire but Azizulhasni at the time said he needed time before being able to make a decision.
Beasley, however, confirmed that at least four Malaysian riders will be sent to compete at the world meet in Denmark.
"I can confirm that for the men's event, Shah Firdaus and Ridwan Sahrom (brothers) will be competing while for the women's event Izzah Izzati Asri and Anis Amira Rosidi will be going," said Beasley.
Shah Firdaus, 28, had a strong outing in Paris and came close to winning a medal in the keirin. Izzah, 20, made her Olympic debut in Paris and was able to break the national record over 200 metres.
