ALOR STAR: Two Kedah footballers and the team coach have given their statements to the police today on an alleged match fixing said to have happened on Nov 4, during the Malaysia Cup finals.
Coach Nidzam Adzhar Yusoff and two players, Khairul Helmi Johari and Amirul Hisyam Awang Kecik, arrived at the Kedah police headquarters to have their statement recorded at 11am today.
They were believed to have spent about an hour at the station.
The match fixing allegation was made by a Facebook user named Muhammad Ridzwan.
Legal advisor for Nidzam, Datuk Iszam Kamal Ismail said, Nidzam and the two players went to the police headquarters to help facilitate police investigation.
He said their presence and cooperation can help police probe further and find the culprit who had spread the false allegation. He added that it was unfair to accuse the players of match fixing just because the team failed to win the Cup.
He hoped the person who made the allegation would come forward and give his statement.
However if the accusation is proven to be baseless, the perpetrator should be brought to justice.
"I hope the case can be solved soon to clear the name and image of the coach, players and also the team," Iszam said.
