KUALA LUMPUR: “You must be joking.”
That was the response from former international Khalid Ali when asked whether he would consider the national coaching job.
On Wednesday, the Harimau Malaya found themselves without a national coach following the sudden resignation of Nelo Vingada due to a spate of bad results.
However, Khalid, known for helping Malaysia to qualify for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, admitted he is not the right candidate for the job.
Khalid also took to task the fans who simply mouthed out his name for national coach.
“They simply mentioned my name without thinking. That is why I say they were only joking,” said Khalid.
“I honestly admit I am not suitable for the national coaching job which is certainly not easy.
“We need someone with a lot of experience. I am not the one.”
“It’s true that I am outspoken but my views were as a former national player who wants to see the national team rise again.”
