PETALING JAYA: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has no issue spending RM200,000 a month on a permanent national coach, but the candidate must be the right fit.
FAM deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi was addressing speculation on whether the national body is considering former Vietnam coach Park Hang Seo for the position.
Yusoff revealed that FAM has shortlisted Hang Seo alongside four other candidates for the Harimau Malaya coaching role on a permanent basis.
Currently, interim coach Pau Marti Vicente has been given the opportunity to prove his capability.
"If we're paying RM100,000 a month for a coach who isn't delivering results, we should consider someone who costs RM200,000 a month but can take the team to the next level. "Whether we like it or not, we have to invest in the national team," said Yusoff after an FAM executive committee meeting at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya today.
Vicente will remain in charge until the end of the AFF Cup in December, after which FAM will assess the team's performance under his guidance.
"He has an advantage because he's been with us for a while and understands the culture, which is a crucial factor when deciding who will coach the team next," Yusoff added.V
icente previously served as the assistant coach to former national coach Kim Pan Gon, who resigned in July.
