Perak are still confident of reaching Malaysia Cup semi-finals

IPOH: Perak are still hopeful of reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia Cup even after the disappointing 0-0 draw with PKNS FC here in the first leg on Tuesday.

The former champions will travel to Shah Alam this weekend for the return leg, where they hope to make a difference in the remaining 90 minutes of the match.

Perak coach Mehmet Durakovic praised his squad for their resilient defence, even in the absence of import player Jad Nourredin and captain Nasir Basharuddin, who is recovering from an injury.

"The players played really well, they tried hard but we just couldn't score the goal we needed," lamented Durakovic.

"Whatever it is, we still have another 90 minutes. Perhaps we can do better at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday."

Youngster Firdaus Saiyadi was handed the captain's armband, and he kept the visitors at bay along with fellow midfielder Brendan Gan.

"Firdaus did not let me down. He put up a superb performance for his team. I am happy because our game plan worked well," added Durakovic.

PKNS coach K.Rajagobal said his side are not entirely safe heading into the return leg.

"Anything can happen, when it comes to the knockout stage. It's a good result, but we are not safe yet.

"We failed to create enough chances up front, although the players played well, especially at the back," said Rajagobal.
