KUALA LUMPUR: The FAM Cup, the third tier of the M-League, faces uncertainty for the 2019 season.
So far, only six teams have confirmed their participation in the FAM Cup, compared to 14 this year.
And the Malaysia Football League (MFL) are prepared to take over the organisation of the FAM Cup, if requested by the FA of Malaysia (FAM).
MFL chief executive officer Kevin Ramalingam said today they have no issues taking over from the FAM local organising committee who have been in charge of the FAM Cup since 1951.
Kevin, however, said MFL have yet to receive any confirmation on the matter.
"I have heard about it (MFL to organise the FAM Cup). But whatever it is, we have to wait for FAM," said Kevin.
"One of the main roles of MFL is to organise leagues. If we are to give our input or help organising, we have no problems with that.
“Division Three is part of the M-League structure, it is part of the national football pyramid and we have to ensure the pyramid is stable.
"We need to have a successful amateur league which is able to support our professional leagues (Super League and Premier League).
"It is through leagues like this that players will be able to turn professional."
MFL, founded as Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership in 2015, are an organising body that currently handle both the Super and Premier Leagues.
