Goulon scores outrageous free-kick in FA Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Free-kicks are very rarely aimed at goal from inside your own half, let alone scored.

Pahang centre-back Herold Goulon can tick off his list of best goals when he scored a stunning free-kick from his own half in the third minute of stoppage time in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final first leg encounter against Perak in Kuantan.

The defending champions won 3-1.

Perak goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim Khairul Nizam Jothy, who was probably blinded by the glare of the floodlights, watched the ball loop over him in vain before hitting the back of his net.

It was Goulon’s second goal in the match after scoring from a header in the 12th minute.

“I just took the free-kick and aimed it towards the Perak goal from about 50 metres. Scoring from it is sweet... I was definitely not expecting anything special from my attempt.

“I was shocked when the ball hit the back of the Perak net. It is definitely an incredible strike... what is more important is my team won the match,” said Goulon.

Fans on social media poked fun by posting that Hafizul Hakim should wear glasses during matches.
