COULD the M-League be touched by the “Hand of God”?
Excited football fans are talking about this after news surfaced on Saturday night that Argentina football legend Diego Maradona had been offered by Pahang FA to coach their Super League side for next season.
It all started with a tweet by sport writer, Cesar Luis Merlo, of a popular football portal in Mexico, Superdeportivo.
He wrote that the 58-year-old Maradona had received a million-dollar offer to coach Pahang for six months.
“Yesterday, Diego Maradona got a ‘millionaire’ offer for six months from Pahang FC from Malaysia. But his decision at this time is to stay.”
The tweet came a day just after Maradona announced he was parting ways with Argentine club Gimnasia de La Plata.
A source confirmed the news with Timesport and said: “I did hear about it but realistically, do you think Pahang will be able to pay that much for to him?
“He (Maradona) is a tough character. Should they be able to keep him in check, would they be able to afford US$1 million (RM4.2million) a month?”
However, according to the latest reports from Argentina, Maradona has made a U-turn and announced he will be staying with Gimnasia as their manager.
Regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Maradona scored against England with his hand during a World Cup match in 1986, hence earning him the “Hand of God” moniker.
