Spaniard Rufino Segovia wants to don Harimau Malaya colours one day.
The former Super League Golden Boot winner hopes it will become a reality but it is unlikely to materialise as he is already 34 years old.
Segovia has been playing for Selangor since June 2017. He hopes to complete the five-year naturalisation ruling to qualify for a Malaysian passport.
“It would be a dream to play for Malaysia. I hope it will become a reality as I intend to remain here for a long time.
“I like it in Malaysia. The people are amazing, and I am playing for a great team here,” said Segovia, who had stints with La Liga side Atletico Madrid and Hong Kong’s Kitchee.
Segovia, who was voted best foreign player in the 2018 M-League, missed more than half of the 2019 season following an Achilles tendon injury.
“I must thank Selangor for being patient. Although I was injured, they did not release me. I hope to help them make an impression in the new season.
“I want to retire at Selangor. And it would be a bonus if I can get to play for Malaysia one day,” he added.
