KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) were slapped with a 50,000 Swiss franc (RM211,000) fine yesterday by Fifa over fan trouble (in violation of articles 16 and 26) in the national team’s pre-World Cup campaign.
The world body took action against FAM over order and security issues at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil after Malaysia beat Indonesia 2-0 in a pre-World Cup match on Nov 19.
Fifa found the national association guilty of violating articles 16 and 26 three times.
The first concerned Malaysia’s 2-1 loss to UAE on Sept 10 at Bukit Jalil, which saw Fifa issuing FAM a warning.
In Malaysia’s 1-0 defeat by Vietnam on Oct 10 in Hanoi, national coach Tan Cheng Hoe was issued a warning by Fifa for not attending the obligatory post-match press conference. Citing migraine, he did not show up.
Meanwhile, Indonesia were handed a 245,000 Swiss franc (RM1 million) fine by Fifa and ordered to play one match behind closed doors following crowd violence in pre-World Cup matches against Malaysia and Thailand.
