AFTER knocking on the door of the national team and was quickly admitted, Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin is now knocking on the doors of homes and offices — as a delivery boy.
The striker has decided to take up the job to pass time while waiting for his trip to Europe to further his football career to become a reality.
Luqman, selected by England’s Guardian newspaper as among the world’s 60 best young footballers for 2019, was initially scheduled to train for three months with English club Cardiff City before signing a five-year contract with Belgium club K.V. Kortrijk.
However, all that has been put on hold by the Covid-19 crisis.
Luqman, who is more used to delivering goals for Malaysia, is now delivering foods and goods instead during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
This will help him pass time and earn some money, the hardworking traits of a good athlete. And he is still training hard at home.
On his job as a delivery boy, he said: “This will help me pass time during this MCO period.”
Before he finally goes to Europe, Luqman plans to play for Selangor’s second team, Selangor 2, in the Premier League.
Instead of just waiting, the Kota Baru-born player would rather focus on improving his football skill with Selangor 2.
In fact, Luqman is glad to have been given the chance to join Selangor 2, as he has not seen competitive action since the Philippines Sea Games last year.
“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be part of Selangor 2. At least I have something to look forward to this year,” he said.
“Although I haven’t gotten a chance to play yet, at least I have a planned programme to follow. I am excited to play for this team.
“Once I am given the green light to travel (to Europe), I will be ready as I will be in top shape,” said Luqman.
