Pre-World Cup training call-up for national footballers

The national players will tentatively report for centralised training on Sept 28 to prepare for their pre-World Cup campaign.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) are confident that M-League teams will release their players for the training camp.

In the past, some teams had refused to release their players on several occasions as the camps were held outside the Fifa international window.

"The windows in September and October are still on schedule. Fifa only cancelled the June 1-8 window due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"M-League teams will have to cooperate and release their players for the camp.

"We are still waiting for clarity on travel restrictions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as the national team need to draw up a plan ahead of their matches," said FAM secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam.

The Fifa windows are on Aug 31-Sept 9 and Oct 5-13.

Malaysia will play the United Arab Emirates away on Oct 8 and Vietnam five days later in Kuala Lumpur in the pre-World Cup.

Meanwhile, FAM have are also monitoring clubs who have not paid salaries to their players and coaches during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

It is learnt that Super League's Kedah and Melaka, and Premier League's Kelantan are the teams being monitored.

These teams could lose their club licence if they do not settle salaries before the June 30 and July 31 deadlines.
