KUALA LUMPUR: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, held a meeting with Fifa President, Gianni Infantino, in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the Fifa president was briefed on Malaysia's national team project, initiated by Tunku Ismail.
"Infantino was briefed on the national team project in Malaysia initiated by HRH The Regent of Johor and that it has also received backing from the Malaysian government," said a statement posted on Tunku Ismail's official Facebook page.
"Infantino expressed his confidence in the national initiative led by the Regent of Johor and agreed to support Malaysia in areas such as research, infrastructure, and development."
The restructuring of the national team has already started with the appointments of Harimau Malaya's new head coach, Peter Cklamovski, and national Under-23 team head coach, Nafuzi Zain.
The national team will also undergo a management overhaul, with the chief executive officer and the technical director to be announced soon.
