KL win Caring Cup marred by 'monkey' chants

KUALA LUMPUR: KL United FC served a warning to their Super League rivals when they edged Selangor 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regulation time in the Caring Club in Cheras on Saturday.

However, KL's win over their Klang Valley rivals was marred by unruly fans, outside the KLFA Stadium, who called Selangor's Ifedayo Omosuyi a monkey.

Captain Paulo Josue, Dominique da Sylva, Hadin Azman and Indra Putra Mahayuddin converted their spot kicks while Selangor managed only two through Singaporean defender Safuwan Baharudin and striker Omosuyi. Manuel Anton Konrad and Oliver Buff both failed to convert for Selangor.

Selangor dominated the first half but could not get the goals.

KL were a better team after the breather but they too could convert their chances during the closed-door match.

Die-hard KL fans gathered around the KLFA Stadium and let-off flares to show their support.

Some fans turned unruly by calling Selangor's Omosuyi a monkey.
