KUALA LUMPUR: Substitute Ifedayo Omosuyi netted a late winner to secure a 1-0 victory for Police over Sabah in their Super League clash at the Selayang Stadium today.
Omosuyi, who replaced Chidi Emma in the 65th minute, struck in the 80th minute to give Police their fourth win of the season.
Police coach P. Maniam was absent from the post-match press conference due to a family emergency, leaving assistant coach Eddy Gapil to address the media.
"The players showed a positive and aggressive attitude in their pursuit of the three points," said Eddy.
"After the 5-1 defeat to Sri Pahang last Sunday, we identified areas for improvement. This week, we focused on being aggressive and maintaining possession, and the team delivered."
The win lifts Police to sixth in the standings with 14 points from 10 matches, just below Sabah on goal difference.
Sabah coach Ong Kim Swee expressed frustration with his team's inability to convert chances.
"It wasn't a performance we can be proud of," he said.
"We failed to build momentum for a win. This is an issue we need to address. We can't afford to take things lightly.
"If we don't approach the upcoming matches with the right mindset, this season could become a real challenge for us."
