KUALA LUMPUR: Defender Syahmi Safari will miss the Asian Cup qualifiers on June 8-14 due to health reasons.
A press statement by the FA of Malaysia (FAM) stated that the 24-year-old has been released from the national squad by coach Kim Pan Gon.
Syahmi underwent health screening today and was advised by doctors to seek proper medical treatment for his sinus.
"Health is paramount. I have released Syahmi so that he can recover from his problem," said Pan Gon.
The national team are now left with 29 players in camp.
Harimau Malaya will play Hong Kong in a friendly at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.
It will be their final warm-up game before the qualifiers.
