Two Premier League clubs pull off upsets in Malaysia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Premier League clubs - Kuching City and Kelantan - sprang upset wins in the Malaysia Cup Round of 16 yesterday. Kuching sent fancied Penang packing while Kelantan turned the tables on Sarawak United.

At the State Stadium, Kuching defeated Penang 2-1 in the second leg for a 4-3 aggregate win.

Wan Mohd Faiz Wan Sulaiman turned hero for the Cats with an extra-time winner in the 118th minute after the match was tied 1-1 in regulation time.

Penang took the lead through Lucas Da Silva (22nd minute) but the hosts got the equaliser through Aliff Hassan in the 62nd minute.

Super League side Sarawak United were eliminated by Kelantan after the tie ended in a 1-1 draw and 2-1 aggregate in favour of the hosts at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.

The Red Warriors took the lead through Norshamil Abdul Ghani (12th minute) before Raja Imran Shah Raja Amin equalised in the 31st minute for Sarawak.

At the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Johor Darul Ta'zim beat Petaling Jaya City 2-0 for a 6-0 aggregate win to march into the quarter-finals.

The Southern Tigers scored through Bergson Da Silva (fourth minute) and Fernando Forestieri (73rd).

At the Likas Stadium, Sabah were held 1-1 by UiTM but the hosts advanced with a 3-2 aggregate win.

Farhan Roslan converted a spot kick for Sabah in the 66th minute after UiTM's Afzal Akbar handled the ball in the box. UiTM got their consolation goal through Farez Aiman Marzuki deep into added time.
