KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah Darul Aman FC chief executive officer Khamal Idris Ali confirmed that they have safely arrived in Turkey for their pre-season tour.
Khamal disclosed that the squad left Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 11pm last night and touched down in Istanbul at 10am local time today.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeast Turkey near the Syrian border this morning. Hundreds of people in both Turkey and Syria have lost their lives.
Khamal said that news of the earthquake had raised concern among family members and Kedah fans.
"At the time of this statement being released, the team is currently in a transit flight (from Istanbul) heading to Antalya and is expected to arrive there at 12pm local time," said Khamal.
"The earthquake in Turkey occurred in a different zone and has not affected our schedule. We will proceed with the four friendly matches as planned at the Limak Arcadia Sports Centre.
"The management is grateful and continues to pray for all those affected."
Nafuzi Zain's squad will be in Turkey for 10 days and will play against clubs from Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
