Super League is not a development competition, says Azraai

KUALA LUMPUR: Respected football coach Azraai Khor Abdullah is sad to see Perak in their current state under coach Datuk Lim Teong Kim.

Perak have laid out long-term plans to develop their young team but have struggled to produce results so far. After six games, they only have five points and are 10th in the Super League table.

Azraai, who achieved the double-treble with Kedah, said he understands the pressures faced by a Super League coach but stressed that it should not be an excuse to lash out at fans or the press.

Teong Kim is former National Football Development Programme (NFDP) project director.

"Perak wanted (to field) a young team (this season) but the Super League is not a development game. Teong Kim is no longer with NFDP," said Azraai today.

Azraai is, however, impressed with how Police have fared in the league this season.

Police are sixth in the standings on 10 points.

"This is a team that people looked down on but they have steadily been improving," added Azraai.

"They achieved a number of upsets and we can see that their management, coaching team and the players have good chemistry.

"I think they would be happy if they finished the season mid-table."

Azraai added that he does not see Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) dominance coming under threat this season.

JDT lead the title race with 18 points, five points ahead of second-placed Kedah.
