KUALA LUMPUR: National footballer Akhyar Rashid is reported to have suffered minor injuries to his head and legs during an alleged robbery in Kuala Terengganu on Thursday evening.
Akhyar's team, Terengganu FC, said in an official statement on social media: "Unfortunately, it has been reported that Terengganu player Akhyar was the victim of a robbery that occurred around 8:30 pm.
"He is receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu and is reported to be in stable condition. Terengganu FC is taking this matter seriously, and the Royal Malaysia Police is investigating the incident."
The club has urged netizens to refrain from speculation as investigation is ongoing.
A video has gone viral on social media showing Akhyar, in a wheelchair, applying what appears to be an ice pack to his head.
As the M-League season kicks off on May 10, Terengganu FC have requested fans to keep Akhyar, 25, in their prayers for a speedy recovery.
