Footballer Akhyar recovering from injuries after robbery

KUALA TERENGGANU: National footballer Akhyar Rashid is on the mend after suffering minor injuries to his head and legs during a robbery in Kuala Terengganu.

Terengganu coach Tomislav Steinbruckner said the team want Akhyar to make a full recovery before fielding him in the Super League.

Steinbruckner said the national winger also needs time to overcome his trauma before refocusing on his team training.

Last Thursday night, Akhyar, who had just returned from team training, was assaulted with an iron rod by unknown assailants near his condominium in Kuala Terengganu. He sustained injuries to his head and legs, and was also robbed of RM4,800.

Akhyar was rushed to a hospital where he received four stitches on his head and two stitches on his legs.

Three days later after the Akhyar incident, national winger Faisal Halim was attacked with concentrated sulphuric acid at a shopping centre in Damansara, causing him to suffer fourth-degree burns to several parts of his body, including his face.

Steinbruckner said: "Akhyar is recovering well from his injuries. I've been informed that Akhyar will have his stitches removed from his head shortly.

"We hope for Akhyar's speedy recovery as he is one of the key players in the team."
