KUALA LUMPUR: Some Sabah players showed four fingers during a goal celebration. This has got tongues wagging -- things are not going well in Sabah FC.
The incident happened during Sabah's match against PSIS Semarang during an invitational tournament in Jakarta on Sunday.
The four-finger gestures were interpreted as four months of salary owing to the Sabah players in their Super League team.
However, Sabah FC manager, Joh Wid, said things at the club are not as bad as they seemed.
However, a source told Timesport that the Sabah players are demoralised and suffering financial hardship.
It is learnt that the Sabah players have not been paid salaries for several months, and not just one month as implied.
"Things seem bad at Sabah. There was a story that came out stating that salaries were being paid, but nothing could be further from the truth.
"The players are suffering but as they are professionals, they soldier on despite going salary-less," said the source.
Joh, when asked about the matter, said: "I'll not answer the allegation because it would only prolong the issue and not remedy the situation.
"What I can say is that the salaries are still being paid, and Sabah's current situation isn't as bad as depicted on social media."
