Faisal Halim makes 'no fear' statement, Red Giants win big

PETALING JAYA: Acid attack victim Faisal Halim made his highly anticipated "M-League debut" from the stands, cheering on his Selangor teammates as the Red Giants thrashed Negri Sembilan 4-0 in Saturday's FA Cup round of 16 match at MBPJ Stadium.

During Thursday's press conference, the winger declared he no longer wanted to "live in fear," and made his statement crystal clear by watching the match with his father, wife, and son.

Selangor took the lead when Yohandry Orozco found the back of the net in the seventh minute, celebrating with a 'siu' tribute to Faisal.

The Venezuelan wasn't done, scoring his second in the 14th minute.

The Red Giants extended their lead through Alvin Fortes just before halftime.

In the second half, Negri attempted a comeback, but a costly mistake from midfielder Aliyu Audu Abu Bakar led to a video assistant referee (VAR) penalty decision.

However, Negri goalkeeper Syahmi Adib Haikal Shukri saved Ronnie Fernandez's penalty kick in the 65th minute.

Fortes completed his brace in the 67th minute, sealing Selangor's commanding win.

"We were excited to see Faisal watching the game from the stands. We hope he will join us soon. I am happy with this victory.

"The players showed commitment and desire today (Saturday)," said Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil.

Meanwhile, Negri coach Azzmi Aziz expressed disappointment in his side's early exit from the FA Cup.

"I am disappointed, especially in the first half where we conceded soft goals. It is not easy with early kick-offs," said Azzmi.

Selangor will face Kuching City in the two-legged quarter-finals.

Kuching defeated former champions KL City 3-2 in Cheras on Friday.
