KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor and owner of Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), revealed that FA of Selangor (FAS) deputy president, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, sought employment from him in February.
This revelation came in Tunku Mahkota Ismail's Instagram page, where a WhatsApp conversation between him and Shahril was shared.
"Firstly, I seek forgiveness for speaking directly, Your Highness. I am exploring job opportunities and would greatly appreciate Your Highness's consideration. Attached is my curriculum vitae for your review," said Shahril.
In response, Tunku Mahkota Ismail said he was unable to offer Shahril employment.
"I regret to inform you that I cannot provide you with a job, which has led to your current endeavours. I wish you the best in your job search," Tunku Mahkota Ismail replied in the same post.
Earlier this week, Shahril surprisingly resigned from all his positions in the FA of Malaysia with immediate effect. He served as FAM sponsorship and marketing committee chairman, and manager of the national Under-23 team.
Shahril denied that his resignation was related to the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) punishment on Selangor FC.
Selangor FC were initially fined RM100,000 (later reduced to RM60,000) by MFL for withdrawing from the Charity Shield match against JDT on May 10. Selangor had asked for a postponement, citing safety concerns following the horrific acid attack on Faisal Halim and threats to team officials.
Selangor were also initially docked three league points, ordered to play a home match behind closed doors against JDT, and pay compensation to MFL and JDT.
When contacted by Timesport, Shahril declined comment.
