King Raja backs England to reach Euro 2024 final

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national coach Datuk K. Rajagobal believes 'boring' England will beat the Netherlands in Wednesday's Euro 2024 semi-finals in Dortmund.

The 68-year-old expects a closely contested match, anticipating the Three Lions to score a narrow victory and advance to the final for the second consecutive time.

"In the group stage and last 16, both England and the Netherlands struggled," noted Rajagobal, affectionately known as King Raja.

"But I believe both teams have settled into their rhythm following their quarter-final victories."

While the Netherlands defeated Turkiye 2-1 in the quarter-finals, England prevailed 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time against Switzerland to reach the last four.

"Dutch forward Cody Gakpo is in fine scoring form, whereas England's Harry Kane has yet to find his stride. It promises to be an exciting game," Rajagobal added.

England have a poor recent record against the Netherlands, with just one win in their last nine encounters.

The Three Lions won 1-0 in a friendly in Amsterdam in 2018.
