KUALA LUMPUR: Former international Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak wants to help footballers get their salaries owing from errant M-League clubs.
In an Instagram post, Zaquan said he will share the affected players' plight on social media if they fear retribution from employers.
This season, several teams were reported to be allegedly facing difficulties in paying salaries.
Naturalised Brazilian player Paulo Josue recently claimed that he has not been paid for seven months by his club, Kuala Lumpur City.
Zaquan said for those players who find it hard to make known their grievances, he wants to help them voice their rights as professional footballers.
"This happens when players dare not speak out about salary issues for fear of repercussions from their clubs who want them to keep quiet about it," said Zaquan.
The M-League is infamous for its many cases of unpaid wages. Teams such as Melaka United, Sarawak United and Kelantan have been expelled from the M-League for failure to pay their players.
Professional Footballers Association of Malaysia president, Safee Sali, has said that when they raised issues of unpaid wages, they are seen as tarnishing the image of Malaysian football. But the problem is never resolved.
"Seven months of unpaid wages, finally Paulo Josue speaks up," wrote Safee on his Instagram account.
"When we speak up, it's said that we want to tarnish and undermine the image of our own football. But when cases like this happen, who should be blamed?
"We are watching what the governing body does. Please monitor and take more proactive measures in handling this issue."
