Pan Gon's 'dangerous' remark causes confusion, fans poke fun

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national coach Kim Pan Gon's "dangerous" remark during Tuesday's press conference has caused confusion and raised more questions.

Malaysian football fans felt Pan Gon, who announced his resignation during the press conference at Wisma FAM, was being evasive.

They hope the South Korean would be more forthcoming about the controversial remark.

Some fans even joked that they "understood" why Pan Gon made the remark, while others offered to teach him English.

This followed Pan Gon's clarification that his limited English proficiency was the reason behind his use of the phrase "very dangerous" when explaining his resignation as Harimau Malaya coach.

"KPG is funny... never mind, netizens understand... just agree," football fan Nia Firdani posted on Berita Harian's Facebook page.

Muhammad Faiz commented: "Hahahaha after meeting, the answer changed."

AzliAnis AizatAiman said: "So funny... he went to see an English teacher yesterday and just realised... great teacher."

Arief Mazlan added: "There are English classes at St Regis apparently."

Affan Irfan wrote: "Don't worry coach, we understand it very clearly," while Azim Shamsudin said: "If you need help, wink three times coach, thank you."

Earlier, in a post on X, RimauXI, Pan Gon revealed that his initial statement was a result of his limited command of the English language and not a reflection of any serious concerns.

The user on the X RimauXI platform, who attended a discussion involving Pan Gon, the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and FA of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi, corroborated this explanation.

According to the user, Pan Gon acknowledged his struggle with the English language during the press conference. The user added that Pan Gon highlighted the need for a careful examination of certain strategic plans.

"However, there are matters that need to be studied for the strategic plan, and this is not something to be discussed openly in front of the media," the user said.

On Tuesday, Pan Gon said that the matter was considered "dangerous" and was only known to the FAM president, Datuk Hamidin Amin.

"I cannot disclose further details about this decision here. It's very sensitive. Datuk Hamidin is aware of everything, but there's no need to inquire further. There's no need to ask that question here. Everything has been resolved," said Pan Gon during the special press conference.
