KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are the best in Malaysian football and are ranked among the top-10 clubs in Asia.
But can they overcome a spirited Selangor in tomorrow's blockbuster FA Cup final?
The two teams are not the best of friends, and the final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil is expected to be explosive and emotional.
The Red Giants, as underdogs, have nothing to lose in the final, while a JDT victory would extend their dominance in the M-League.
According to Opta Analyst, the Southern Tigers, who recorded a double-quadruple in the last two seasons, are ranked 287th in the global world rankings and No. 10 in Asia.
JDT are ranked higher than Watford and Swansea City, who once played in the Premier League.
However, Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil is unperturbed as he focuses solely on the Red Giants ahead of the final.
This will be Nidzam's first experience as a coach in a major final.
"It's a good thing. I hope this is just the beginning of many great moments. If things continue like this, I'll be sleeping even better. It's not just about me; it's also about the players," said Nidzam during the pre-match press conference at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, today.
"It's not me playing, but many of our players, like Nooa Laine, Harith Haiqal, and Adam Afkar, are experiencing this for the first time. The excitement is tangible, and we're embracing this journey with positivity and enthusiasm," he added.
Guiding Selangor to the FA Cup final presented challenges, but Nidzam remains optimistic about their chances.
"We have a 50-50 chance because the game is still 90 minutes long. We have ambition and dreams, and there's nothing wrong with that. We're approaching this with a positive mindset.
"Life is about seizing opportunities, and we're ready to take ours," said Nidzam.
Nidzam also mentioned that midfielder Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi will not play due to injury.
He could not confirm whether acid-attack survivor Faisal Halim would play any part in the final.
Selangor captain Safuwan Baharudin shared his observations after Thursday's official training session on the pitch at the National Stadium.
"The pitch is in good shape — not too dry or slippery. Given the weather, light rain before the game could make the pitch ideal for play," he said.
For Safuwan, the FA Cup final at Bukit Jalil is a notable achievement. He reflects on the collective effort that has brought them to this point, recognising the contributions of players, coaches, and backroom staff.
"We've been through a lot together. It's not just about the players and coaches but the entire support team. We're all part of a family, sharing the same experiences, and that's incredibly motivating," said Safuwan.
When asked about JDT, Safuwan commented, "Every player has their own strengths. I think it will be an exciting match."
