My son thought I was going to be sacked, says Selangor coach

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil's son made a rare appearance at MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya on Saturday for the FA Cup semi-final, fearing his father would be sacked after the game.

However, Selangor defeated Terengganu 4-1 in the return leg to win 6-4 on aggregate.

The Red Giants will face either defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) or Kedah in the final later this month.

Captain Safuwan Baharudin was the toast of Selangor, scoring a hat-trick in the third, sixth, and 54th minutes, with Reziq Bani Hani adding another in stoppage time.

Ismaheel Akinade scored a consolation for Terengganu in the 22nd minute.

Nidzam has been under fire on social media, with some netizens calling for his removal following a few mediocre results.

However, Selangor still has faith in him.

Nidzam said the pressure from dealing with rumours does not impact his focus.

"I have been dealing with this a lot of late. I am just focused on my job.

"My son came to the game today because of the rumour that I would be sacked. It's all part of the perception game, but my priority is to improve the team," said Nidzam.

He praised Safuwan for his brilliant performance on Saturday, comparing him to an "assistant coach" on the pitch.

"We are in the final and will focus on winning the FA Cup," he added.
