KUALA LUMPUR: Former Manchester United Academy player Joshua Brownhill may soon play for Malaysia.
Web portal, Frfuturetalents, has reported that the Burnley FC captain is keen to move to Malaysia, and the Englishman himself has confirmed the news.
The 28-year-old midfielder said in an email to Frfuturetalents recently that he has Malaysian heritage through his grandmother.
"I can confirm that I have Malaysian ancestry through my grandmother, which is something I am very proud of.
"Although I have been focused on my club career so far, the possibility of representing Malaysia at the international level is something I would be open to considering," said Brownhill.
Valued at approximately 15 million euros (RM72 million), Brownhill could become the most expensive player in Southeast Asia if he joins Harimau Malaya.
This season so far, Brownhill, who excels as an attacking midfielder, has made four appearances for Burnley and scored two goals in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Dutch defender Mats Deijl, who plays for Go Ahead Eagles, has also disclosed his Malaysian heritage and has been in touch with FAM.
