Red Giants trample Kuching 4-0

PETALING JAYA: Selangor secured their sixth consecutive home victory in the Super League with a crushing 4-0 win over Kuching City at the MBPJ Stadium on Friday.

With the win, the Red Giants closed the gap to league leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) by just three points.

Selangor accumulated 22 points from 10 matches while JDT led with 25 points from nine games.

Selangor opened account in the 11th minute when new signing Ali Olwan of Jordan delivered a precise assist to Ronnie Fernandez, who found the net.

There was a brief controversy over a claimed handball, but the Video Assistant Referee dismissed it, allowing the goal to stand.

In the 67th minute, Ali Olwan scored his first goal of the season, and doubling Selangor's advantage.

Selangor pulled further ahead in the 74th minute when Uzbekistan defender Umarbek Eshmurodov headed home off corner taken by substitute Yohandry Orozco.

With 10 minutes left, Alvin Fortes added a fourth goal for Selangor.

The Red Giants' big win at MBPJ Stadium sent a message to their rivals that their home venue is becoming a fortress.

Kuching City remained in fourth place, just behind Terengganu, with 14 points from 10 matches.
