KUALA LUMPUR: Former Selangor captain Shahrom Kalam is poised to rejoin the club as assistant head coach following the unexpected departure of Irishman Conor Nestor.
Selangor FC insiders said that the 39-year-old Shahrom, who captained the Red Giants from 2013 to 2016, possesses the leadership qualities and footballing acumen to guide them.
"He's not only knowledgeable about the game but also has a personality that resonates well with the players.
"Shahrom is a degree holder, and his experience makes him an invaluable asset," said a source.
Shahrom's recent stint as the head coach of Gombak FC saw the team in eighth place in the A1 Semi-Pro League, with 22 points from 14 matches.
Nestor, 40, reportedly left Selangor after just six months to take charge of
Cambodian club, Boeung Ket FC.
Earlier in the season, the Selangor management had indicated that chief coach Nidzam Jamil would be assisted by two coaches — one local and one foreign. Bringing in Shahrom as an assistant coach, reinforces their commitment to developing local talent and maintaining a strong connection with the club's rich history.
