Malaysia beat Oman in Asian Under-20 opener

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia kicked off their Under-20 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Oman in Group E at the Republican Central Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, today.

The Malaysian team, coached by Spaniard Juan Torres Garrido, scored their opening goal in the 30th minute. Moses Raj slotted the ball home off a freekick taken by Haykal Danish Haizon.

Harimau Muda doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Haykal converted a penalty, which was awarded after Oman's Adnan Khamis Al Mushaifri fouled Haykal.

Oman pulled one back in the 88th-minute through a spot kick by Majis Al Farsi.

Malaysia's remaining matches are against North Korea on Monday, against hosts Tajikistan on Friday and against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Meanwhile Perak edged KL City 1-0 in a Super League match in Ipoh with Luka Milunovic scoring the winner in the 62nd minute.

The victory moved Perak to seventh in the table with 12 points from nine games, while KL City dropped to 11th with just eight points after 10 matches.
