KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu skipper Safawi Rasid is aiming for redemption against Vietnam's Dong A Thanh Hoa in their second ASEAN Club Championship ACC Group A match in Kuala Terengganu tomorrow.
The Dungun-born player vowed not to let the Turtles' fans down again at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium after their disappointing 3-2 defeat to unfancied Cambodian side, Svay Rieng, in their group opener last month.
However, the Johor Darul Ta'zim loanee admitted that it will not be an easy task for his team as they face formidable opponents who recently clinched the Vietnamese Cup in July.
He hoped that the Turtles supporters will turn up in full force to fill the stadium and roar the players on to victory against the Lam Son Warriors.
"We were deeply disappointed after failing to secure three points in our first match, narrowly losing 2-3 to Svay Rieng last month at home," said Safawi during a pre-match press conference.
"But that's football. We want to make amends for that loss. A victory would also boost our motivation ahead of our Super League match against Selangor at the end of this month.
"We hope our loyal fans will continue to fill the stadium and provide us with their full support, which will further lift our spirits."
Dong A Thanh Hoa coach, Velizar Popov, has urged his players to be more aggressive against Terengganu as they aim for a second win in the competition. They beat Myanmar's Shan United 3-1 last month.
The 48-year-old former Kelantan coach, who has been leading the club since 2022, said his squad are missing four key players due to injuries.
"I have also instructed the players to create more attacking movements to hunt for goals."
