Turtles let Vietnamese get away

KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu's winless run continued in the ASEAN Club Championship (ACC) after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Vietnam's

Dong A Thanh Hoa in their second Group A match in Kuala Terengganu tonight.

The Turtles got off to a perfect start after winger Akhyar Rashid opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Manuel Ott doubled their lead in the 40th minute at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium.

However in the second half, Dong A Thanh Hoa stepped up a gear in their

fightback with Luiz Antonio reducing the deficit in the 46th minute.

Disaster struck the hosts in the 53rd minute when defender Ubaidullah Shamsul scored an own goal to make it 2-2.

Terengganu tried to get back into the game with a double substitutions, bringing in Chukwu Chijioke and Marin Pilj for Ismahil Akinade and Akram Mahinan in the 67th minute.

The Turtles started to press Dong A in the final 20 minutes, but the heavy pitch due to a downpour, slowed down their attacking moves.

Sensing trouble, the Vietnam side quickly shored up their defence by keeping the ball away from their half and held on till the final minute to return home with a point.

Terengganu were left kicking themselves in letting the win slip through their fingers after losing their opener 3-2 to Cambodia's Svay Rieng last month.
