KUALA LUMPUR: A promising future for Asean football may be on the horizon following a high-profile meeting of the region's football leaders on Tuesday.
The Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, owner of Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), posted a photo on social media of his meeting with Indonesia FA chairman Erick Thohir, Persib Bandung owner Glenn Sugita and Valencia owner Peter Lim.
KL City CEO Stanley Bernard was also in attendance.
Tunku Ismail hinted at upcoming plans that could reshape Asean football.
"Met with Erick Thohir, Glenn Sugita and Peter Lim last night. We discussed football and positive future plans that will be a game changer.
"Exciting times ahead for Asean football. Much respect," wrote Tunku Ismail on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Erick shared on his social media that they had a productive discussion about the future of Asean football.
"The Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has a great vision for Asean and Asian football.
"It was very interesting to discuss the quality of football in Southeast Asian countries. We want nations in Southeast Asia to be competitive at the Asian level and even on the world stage," said Erick.
Erick had recently invited Tunku Ismail to consider investing in Indonesian football.
This development follows Tunku Ismail's recent praise of Erick, describing him as a model of effective leadership for the FA of Malaysia (FAM) to follow.
