FAM suspends referee, VAR official after Perak-JDT match

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has suspended referee Razlan Joffri Ali and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) official in charge of last Sunday's Super League match between Perak and Johor Darul Ta'zim due to errors in critical decisions.

FAM vice president Datuk S. Sivasundaram said the suspensions came after two incidents in the match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium,

The first was a controversial penalty in the 38th minute and the second was a scuffle between JDT's Arif Aiman Hanapi and Perak's Tommy Mawat Bada in the 84th.

Both the match referee and VAR official were found to have made incorrect calls in these situations.

"The FAM Referee Committee has decided to suspend both officials for two matches, and they will undergo retraining before returning to officiate," said Sivasundaram.

He said FAM's review of 110 Super League and FA Cup matches with VAR usage showed that officiating has generally been good. A total of 61 On Field Reviews (OFRs) were conducted, averaging 0.55 per match, which aligns with international standards. Out of 110 matches, there were only four complaints about refereeing decisions and just one incorrect call.
