KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor, the most successful team in Malaysia Cup history with 33 titles, were shown the door in the round of 16 today.
Selangor were eliminated by Pahang after losing 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate) in the return leg at the MBPJ Stadium.
Going into the game with a 1-1 draw from Temerloh last week, the Red Giants conceded two penalties which were duly converted by Pahang.
Selangor defender, Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar, fouled Kpah Sherman in the 25th minute. Manuel Hidalgo scored from the spot.
Captain Safuwan Baharudin gave Selangor some hope by equalising in the 77th minute.
But Selangor defender Quentin Cheng made a reckless foul on Mykola Ahapov in the 84th minute. This time, Sergio Aguero fired home from the spot. Pahang will meet Perak in the quarter-finals.
At KLFA Stadium, KL City crushed Kedah 3-0 to enter the last eight.
Though trailing 2-3 from the first leg, the City Boys outplayed Kedah this time with goals from captain Paulo Josue (14th minute), Jovan Motika (19th) and Ryan Lambert (41st). KL will face defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim in the quarter-finals.
